About the Exam

What is the NAC OSCE Exams?

The National Assessment Collaboration Objective Structured Clinical Examination (NAC OSCE) is a critical national exam for medical students and graduates preparing for Canadian residency applications and relevant assessment pathways. Administered by the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), it assesses your clinical skills, communication, and decision-making abilities through a series of timed, structured stations — each simulating a real patient encounter.

Unlike written knowledge exams, the NAC OSCE tests how you perform in the room. Your ability to take a focused history, conduct a physical examination, communicate clearly with patients, counsel effectively, and reason through a clinical problem under time pressure is what determines your result.

For IMGs, the NAC OSCE is also required for most CaRMS residency applications — making it a critical step not just for licensing, but for your path to residency in Canada. MedCognito’s course prepares you for every station, from the most common presentations to the ones that trip candidates up the most.

Who should take the NAC OSCE?

  • International Medical Graduates (IMGs) seeking to practise medicine in Canada
  • Medical graduates applying to residency programs through CaRMS
  • Candidates with a medical degree from an MCC-recognised institution
  • Licensing candidates pursuing practice-ready assessment pathways (PRA)

Meet Dr. Nana Yaw Amo Broni

Dr. Broni is a practising Canadian family physician and the founder of MedCognito. As an internationally trained physician himself, he navigated the Canadian licensure pathway firsthand — and built MedCognito to give every IMG the structured, expert-led preparation he wished he’d had access to.

For the NAC OSCE specifically, Dr. Broni brings a deep understanding of what the exam actually rewards — not just clinical knowledge, but the communication style, patient-centred approach, and structured clinical reasoning that Canadian examiners are looking for. His students consistently credit his clarity and the practical frameworks he provides as the reasons they passed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from IMGs preparing for the NAC OSCE with MedCognito.

The NAC OSCE consists of 12 clinical stations, each lasting 11 minutes. Each station simulates a patient encounter — testing your ability to take a history, perform a physical examination, make clinical decisions, counsel patients, communicate clearly, and handle emergency presentations. Total exam time is approximately 3.5 hours. The exam is available in English only and administered at designated testing sites across Canada.

Yes. Most Canadian residency programs require NAC OSCE results as part of a CaRMS application. A strong NAC OSCE score demonstrates clinical readiness to residency programs and is a meaningful differentiator in a competitive match process. MedCognito's course prepares you to perform at your best on the first attempt, which has the greatest impact on your CaRMS application.

The Medical Council of Canada permits a maximum of 5 attempts at the NAC OSCE. Given this limit — and the impact of first-attempt performance on CaRMS applications — it is essential to be as thoroughly prepared as possible before your first sit. MedCognito's structured preparation and mock exams are specifically designed to maximise your readiness for the first attempt.

MedCognito operates on a rolling intake — you can enrol and start immediately, any time. Upon enrolment you receive instant access to the full video library, downloadable study plan, and student community. All plans include 6 months of full access. Live session schedules are shared upon enrolment.

Yes. Every plan — whether you pay in full or across 3 monthly instalments — includes the same complete course: the full NAC OSCE video library, mock exams with personalised feedback, live sessions and Q&A replays, and the downloadable study plan. The only difference between plans is the payment structure and total cost. The full pay-in-one option saves $100 compared to the instalment plans.

Yes. MedCognito has partnered with Windmill Microlending to provide financial support for International Medical Graduates who need help covering their licensing exam preparation costs. Windmill offers low-interest loans specifically for newcomers to Canada in professional pathways. You can explore your eligibility through the funding link in the pricing section above.
