About the Exam

What is the Clinical Field Assessment?

The Clinical Field Assessment is a 12 week supervised evaluation used to determine readiness for independent family practice in British Columbia.

Candidates are assessed by SIPPA approved physician assessors in real clinical settings, focusing on communication, clinical decision making, case management, and readiness to practise as a most responsible physician.

MedCognito’s CFA preparation program helps you understand how practice readiness is assessed and what Canadian physician assessors expect in real clinical settings.

What is assessed during the CFA?
Clinical decision making

Safe, effective patient assessment, diagnosis, and management across common practice settings.

Communication and professionalism

Clear patient interaction, collaboration with healthcare teams, and professional judgment.

Practice readiness

Ability to practise independently as a most responsible physician in the Canadian healthcare system.

Real-world performance

The CFA evaluates real-world clinical practice, not written knowledge or generic exam recall.
